How To

How do I add Web Forwarding?

Web Forwarding allows multiple sites to look like a single site. You can register misspellings, alternate extensions (e.g., .biz, .net, etc.) and/or abbreviations and then forward them to a primary Web site. When masking is activated with Web Forwarding, visitors to the Web site will only see the domain name (or URL) they typed in the address bar of their browser, not the domain name where they have been forwarded. Visitors aren't aware that they are being sent to a different Web site, regardless of where they are within the Web site. Adding Web Forwarding to a domain name will automatically convert any domain names of type Registration to type Advanced DNS.

To add Web Forwarding and Masking to a single existing domain name:

  1. From the Network Solutions® Partner Portal home page, click the Order Services tab at the top of the screen, then click the Add Web Forwarding link.
  2. To add Web Forwarding to a domain name, enter the domain name (example: mydomain.com) and click the Go! button.

By selecting Advanced Search you can also search for the domain name. The Advanced Search feature searches by a variety of criteria, including wildcard searches, date ranges or uploaded text files of domain names. Results will return only domain names that do not have Web Forwarding. Once you have found the domain name you wish to add Web Forwarding to, click the box in the "Select" column of the domain name search results. Select the term you would like for Web Forwarding from the drop down list, and click the Go! button.

  3. This will take you to a new page where you can enter the destination web site address (the primary web site or URL), check the box by Mask Destination to activate the Masking feature, and select the term you would like for Web Forwarding. You also may turn Auto Renew "On" for this service by selecting "On" from the drop down list. Click the Go! button. Please note: You cannot add Web Forwarding for a term that would put the total term over 10 years. When added through this flow, the Web Forwarding expiration date does not synch with the expiration date of the domain name. Click the Submit button to complete the addition of Web Forwarding.

For domain names that have been registered for 48 hours or more, it generally takes up to 12 hours for your Web Forwarding to be activated.
