Frequently Asked Questions

For questions on how to perform specific Partner Portal transactions, please visit the How To link under Help.

What is the Network Solutions® Partner Portal?

The Network Solutions® Partner Portal is a web-based application that acts as a Partner storefront for domain name registration and management. Partners can begin registering, renewing and managing domain names right away. In addition, it gives Partners access to the latest domain name extensions as soon as they are available, new product announcements, and technical information.

What is the Network Solutions® Partner Protocol?

Extensible Markup Language (XML) has fast become the new standard for conducting transactions on the Internet. Network Solutions' Partner Protocol is based on an XML API (Application Programming Interface). The Partner Protocol is a software development kit that can be used to build an application, which can be seamlessly integrated into your existing website. Developed to be essentially agnostic to the programming language that harnesses it, the Partner Protocol is the foundation for real-time binding to our service delivery platform. It offers a flexible and completely customizable solution for Partners to allow their customers to register, renew and manage domain names.

How do I select which domain name registration and management tool to use?

There are a variety of different factors that you should consider in selecting a domain name registration and management tool. In choosing the right tool for your organization, you should consider:

  • Size of your organization
  • Competencies and skill-levels of your organization
  • Availability of resources
  • Projected domain name registration and renewal volumes
  • Your current business model (the way that you sell or plan to sell domain names)

You may wish to use different tools for different functions. The Network Solutions Partner Portal and Partner Protocol use the same foundation to ensure the highest level of flexibility and performance no matter what tool you use. For example, you may integrate the XML-API into your front-end system, allowing end-users to perform direct, real-time administration of their own domains, while you use the Partner Portal to perform on-line, wholesale account management of your domain name inventory.

Will I receive renewal notifications?

As a courtesy to our Partners, Networks Solutions sends consolidated renewal notices by e-mail on the 1st and 15th of each month alerting you to the domain names coming up for renewal within 75, 45 and 15 days. You will receive additional notices regarding any domain names that were not renewed by the anniversary date of pending action on those domain names. For more details, see our handbook "Understanding Partner Wholesale Transaction and Payment Policies."

Please note: It essential that you keep all contacts for you and your customers updated, as all notices will be sent via e-mail. Network Solutions reserves the right to delete a domain name that has not been renewed and/or paid for at any time without notice to you or the Registrant. To update your contact information, select the Partner Info tab and click on Notification Information.

Will I receive notification if a pending transaction fails?

You will receive notification of any failed transactions, as well as successful transactions. To ensure you receive notifications, select the Partner Info tab and click on Notification Information to designate and update which e-mail addresses receive important notifications about the progress of important domain name transactions.

Can I cancel a transaction?

Transactions may not be canceled, so please be careful when performing any billable transactions. By registering or renewing a domain name, you are accepting responsibility for full payment of the registration or renewal charge.

Can I perform bulk transactions?

Yes. The Partner Portal and Partner Protocol both give you the ability to perform bulk registrations and renewals, as well as make global modifications to DNS and contact information.

Can I perform global updates to domain names?

Yes, global updates can be performed on domain names that are registered as the same "type" within a given account. Domain types are Registration and Advanced DNS. Select the global change you would like to make from the provided drop-down list of editable items.

For Registration domain names within the same Customer Account, the user can globally edit:

  • Customer Contact Information
  • Registrant Name
  • Host
  • Admin Contact
  • Billing Contact
  • Convert to Advanced DNS
  • Auto Renew
  • Domain Protect

For Advanced DNS domain names within the same Customer Account, the user can globally edit:

  • Customer Contact Information
  • Registrant Name
  • Admin Contact
  • Billing Contact
  • Convert to Registration
  • Web Forwarding
  • Under Construction
  • Auto Renew
  • Domain Protect
What's the difference between a "Business" and "Individual" Account?

A Business Account is meant for a business where the Registrant of a domain name is an entity with a legal contact that is authorized to modify that account. An Individual Account is designed for customers who are the Registrant or Account Holder.

Can I delete a domain name?

Yes, you may delete domain names. Two notes of caution when using this feature: 1) deletes cannot be undone, and 2) no refunds or credits will be given if you choose to delete a new registration or renewal.

What happens when a domain name is deleted?

Whether you choose to delete a domain name, or whether a domain name in your account is deleted because it has expired or remains unpaid, the domain name and its record are removed from the Domain Name System (DNS) and Network Solutions' database. It is then released back to the registry of origin and made available for registration by others. Some registries may place domain names on hold for a period of time to guard against the loss of names to those who may have unintentionally allowed a name to expire and/or be deleted. For more details, see our handbook "Understanding Partner Wholesale Transaction and Payment Policies."

How will I be billed?

Our Partner tools interface with an account-centric system, which allows us to provide a single invoice for all domain name transactions with Network Solutions submitted by a wholesale account in a given month. When a domain name is registered and explicitly renewed, a line item is generated on your invoice. A Wholesale Invoice is generated monthly and is sent to you at the beginning of each month. The invoice provides the beginning and ending balance that is calculated based on registration activity via the Network Solutions® Partner Portal, XML API or new registration Template v6.1, as well as payments received and adjustments applied, in a given month.

How will payments be applied?

Invoices must be paid in full before the invoice due date. Payments are applied first to the oldest open line item(s) on the oldest open invoice. Payments cannot be applied to specific line items on a specific invoice.
